Things to do at Bijambare Caves
Bijambare Nature Park sits about 30 km from Sarajevo, roughly 45 minutes by car, and protects around twenty caves cut into the karst plateau. Only one, Bijambarska pecina, has a lit walkway and is open to visitors, and only with a guide: tours run 20 to 30 minutes and cover roughly 400 m of gallery.
Opening hours are limited outside the summer season and on weekdays, so check ahead rather than turning up on spec. The cave holds a steady, cool temperature year-round, noticeably colder than the surface air in summer, so bring a layer. It shelters protected bat colonies and flash photography is not allowed.
The other caves in the park are unlit and unmarked, used only for guided speleology, not casual visits.
