Things to do in Neum

Neum is Bosnia and Herzegovina's only stretch of coast: 24 km of Adriatic shoreline wedged between two sections of Croatian territory, a border quirk that traces back to the 1699 Treaty of Karlowitz. It sits roughly 3 hours from Sarajevo and about 30 minutes off the Mostar-Dubrovnik road, so most visitors pass through rather than base themselves here.

The town is a modest strip of largely 1980s hotels, renovated to varying standards, fronting pebble and shingle beaches rather than sand. Rooms and meals run noticeably cheaper than a few kilometres further down the coast in Croatia, often by a third or more. Crossing in or out means two Croatian border checkpoints, even for a short stop, so keep passports to hand.

Neum works best as a logistics stop or a one-night sea break, not as a standalone holiday destination with the historic pull of Dubrovnik or Split.
