Things to do at Skakavac Waterfall

Skakavac is a 98-metre waterfall inside the Skakavac Nature Reserve, roughly 12 km north of Sarajevo, reached on foot from the village of Mrkovici. The round trip takes 2 to 3 hours depending on where you start walking, on a marked path that sees regular foot traffic, so there is no need to worry about straying onto unswept ground the way you would elsewhere in the country.

What you see at the end depends entirely on timing: in April and May, snowmelt sends a heavy curtain of water over the cliff, while by August the flow can drop to a thin trickle, sometimes barely more than a damp streak on the rock.

It is a different experience from Kravice or the Pliva falls at Jajce, both of which run at far higher, more constant volume and lie well outside a Sarajevo day trip.
