Things to do in Konjic
Konjic sits on the Neretva about 60 km and roughly an hour from Sarajevo, and the reason to come is under the mountain, not the river.
The Ottoman bridge dates to 1682 and was rebuilt after being blown up in 1945, but the real draw is Tito's ARK D-0, a 6,500 m2 anti-atomic bunker dug between 1953 and 1979, now open for guided tours since 2011 and used as a contemporary art space. Book ahead: it runs on set tour times, not walk-in visits.
From May to September, several rafting operators run half-day trips on the Neretva starting in town. Konjic is the bridge, the bunker and the rafting; the 1943 Battle of the Neretva and its museum belong a little further south, in Jablanica.
