Things to do in Stolac

Stolac sits on the Bregava river, 90 km and roughly 1 hour 45 minutes south of Sarajevo via Mostar, and it claims to be one of the longest continuously inhabited towns in the Balkans. The Vidoski fortress climbs the hillside above an Ottoman-era old town of stone houses and restored water mills.

Unlike Pocitelj, which sits closer to the main road and draws coach groups, Stolac is quieter and less patched up: the 1992-95 war hit the town hard, and some houses still stand roofless next to ones already rebuilt. The Radimlja stecci necropolis is 5 km outside town.

In summer, locals swim in the Bregava rather than travel to the coast, which is 3 hours away at Neum. Stolac is a place people live in, not a backdrop.
