Things to do in Pocitelj

Pocitelj is a fortified Ottoman village stacked in stone terraces above the Neretva, roughly 30 km south of Mostar. The Hadzi Alija Mosque dates to 1563, and the octagonal clock tower still marks the climb up through the old houses to the hilltop watchtower, about 15-20 minutes of steps and no shade.

There is no ticket booth at the entrance; a small donation box sits near the mosque, and reaching the top and back down takes under an hour. Most visitors see it as a stop on a longer Mostar day, combined with Blagaj or Kravice rather than as a destination on its own.

Come outside the midday coach window from May to September, when the narrow paths fill with tour groups stepping off buses bound for Kravice.
