Things to do in Blagaj

Blagaj sits where the Buna river surfaces at the foot of a 200-metre limestone cliff, one of the strongest karst springs in Europe by discharge. A 16th-century dervish tekke stands built directly against the rock, its wooden terraces set over the turquoise water.

Visitors remove their shoes to see the tekke's low-ceilinged rooms and prayer hall, then sit at one of the riverside terraces for coffee or grilled trout. From Mostar it is a 12 km run, about 20 minutes by car or local bus; from Sarajevo it is roughly 140 km and 2 h 30 by road.

Spring brings a heavier, colder flow straight off snowmelt, while by late August the Buna runs lower and noticeably warmer, so the same viewpoint looks and feels different depending on when you go.
