Things to do at Tito's Bunker (ARK D-0)
ARK D-0 is a 6,500-square-metre bunker dug into the hillside above Konjic, built in secret between 1953 and 1979 to shelter Yugoslav leadership in the event of nuclear war. Its existence was classified even from most Yugoslav army officers, and it only opened to visitors in 2011.
Since then the tunnels have doubled as a contemporary art space, home to the Biennial of Contemporary Art, so rooms of Cold War infrastructure sit alongside gallery installations. The site is about 60 km from Sarajevo, roughly an hour by road, and can only be seen on a guided tour, with no self-guided access to the tunnels.
Groups fill up in summer, so book ahead rather than turning up on spec.
