Things to do at the Tunnel of Hope

The Tunnel of Hope was dug by hand in 1993, 800 metres running under the runway of Sarajevo Airport, and it stayed the only link between the besieged city and free territory for most of the 1,425-day siege that ran from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996.

About 20 metres of the original tunnel are open to visitors on the Butmir side, attached to a small museum, with entry around 10-15 KM. Most guided siege tours stop here, usually paired with the Yellow Fortress or Trebevic.

The site sits well outside the centre and public transport is limited, so budget for a taxi or a fixed pick-up time with a tour.
