Things to do on Bjelasnica
Bjelasnica hosted the men's alpine skiing at the 1984 Winter Olympics, held from 8 to 19 February that year, and its summit sits at 2,067 m. The mountain is 30 km and about 45 minutes by road from Sarajevo, making it an easy half-day out.
Some of the original Olympic lift infrastructure is now derelict or only partially renovated, and the skiable terrain is smaller and less consistently maintained than Jahorina's on the Republika Srpska side. Runs open roughly December to March depending on snowfall, with day lift passes typically in the 30-40 KM range.
Outside winter, marked hiking trails cross the upper slopes toward Lukomir and the Rakitnica canyon, and the summit ridge gives a clear view down over the Sarajevo valley. Stick to marked pistes and trails: unmarked ground on the plateau is unforgiving in poor visibility.
