Things to do: the Sarajevo Cable Car
The Trebevic cable car closed in 1992 and reopened on 6 April 2018, so the current cabins are new even though the line follows the pre-war route. It runs from Bistrik, just above Bascarsija, up to 1,164 m on Mount Trebevic in around nine minutes, with a return ticket costing about 20 KM.
It is the fastest way to get above Sarajevo and see the shape of the valley the city sits in, and from the cabin you can trace the old line's pylons down the hillside where the wartime front ran. Queues build up on clear weekends and holidays, when waiting for a cabin can add 30 to 45 minutes.
Service is suspended without notice in high wind or heavy fog, so check before making the trip up if the weather looks marginal.
