Things to do in Foca

Foca sits on the Drina in Republika Srpska, 130 km and roughly 2 hours 30 from Sarajevo, and it works best as a stopover rather than a destination in itself. Signage switches to Cyrillic once you cross into Republika Srpska, so have place names ready in both scripts.

Most visitors pass through on the way to rafting on the Tara, which runs from May to September with half-day trips starting around 40-50 KM per person, or heading on to Sutjeska National Park and its old-growth forest reserve about an hour further south. Two Sarajevo bus stations serve different directions: Istocno Sarajevo (Lukavica) for Republika Srpska routes including Foca, and the main Sarajevo station (Autobuska stanica) for the Federation.

Foca's 20th-century history, including the wartime destruction of its Ottoman-era mosques, is documented but not signposted for visitors, so treat the town as a practical base rather than a memorial stop.
