Things to do at the War Childhood Museum

The War Childhood Museum, in the Old Town a short walk from Bascarsija, holds objects donated by Sarajevans who were children during the 1992-1995 siege: a toy, a diary, a pair of ice skates, each displayed with a short first-person account written by the person who kept it. The Council of Europe named it Museum of the Year in 2018.

Entry runs around 10 KM, and a visit takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much of the text panels you read. This is a different museum from the History Museum on Zmaja od Bosne, which sets out the siege's timeline and mechanics, and from the Gallery 11/07/95, which addresses the Srebrenica genocide.

Here the focus stays on what it was to be a child in the city between 1992 and 1995, told through single objects rather than statistics.
