Things to do in Umoljani

Umoljani sits on the Bjelasnica plateau, roughly 40 km and just over an hour's drive from Sarajevo, and it works as the practical gateway to this stretch of mountain rather than a destination to linger over.

The road in is sealed and kept open through winter, which sets it apart from Lukomir, 10 km further along a track that closes under snow for much of the year: choose Umoljani as a base from November to April, Lukomir only in the warmer months. Wooden guesthouses and a handful of restaurants serve lamb and local cheese, with double rooms running around 40-60 KM a night.

From the village, marked trails lead to viewpoints over the Rakitnica canyon, an hour or two on foot round trip, and on toward Lukomir itself for those continuing further.
