Things to do in Trebinje
Trebinje sits at the southern tip of Herzegovina, close enough to the Adriatic to feel it: fig trees, vineyards and a climate noticeably softer than Sarajevo's. The fortified old town dates to the 18th century, and its main square is shaded by century-old plane trees rather than the usual cafe awnings.
The Arslanagic Bridge, moved stone by stone when a dam flooded its original crossing, sits just outside the walls over the Trebisnjica river. Trebinje is also the base for the Tvrdos Monastery winery and the Hercegovacka Gracanica church on the hill above town, both worth a separate visit.
The catch is distance: it is roughly 240 km and 4 hours from Sarajevo, which rules out a day trip. Most visitors see it on the way to Dubrovnik, only 28 km further on.
