Things to do in the Rakitnica Canyon

The Rakitnica Canyon cuts a narrow line between the Bjelasnica and Visocica massifs, reached on foot from Umoljani or Lukomir, both roughly 50 km and 1 h 30 from Sarajevo, the last stretch on an unpaved track.

Depending on the route, walking the canyon rim or dropping into it takes anywhere from four hours to a full day, over loose rock and unmarked or poorly marked stretches.

This is remote terrain with no phone signal for long spells, and a guide is strongly recommended rather than optional: paths fork without signage and the drop into the gorge is steep enough that a wrong turn matters.
