Things to do at the Latin Bridge
The Latin Bridge is a stone crossing over the Miljacka, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, linking Bascarsija to the Austro-Hungarian quarter. It takes 2-3 minutes to walk and costs nothing.
Its weight is historical, not architectural: on the corner beside it, Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie on 28 June 1914, an assassination that triggered the First World War rather than started it in any literal sense. The corner building now houses the Sarajevo 1878-1918 Museum, a small collection covering Austro-Hungarian rule up to the assassination.
Rooms are few and fill quickly with tour groups, so budget 20-30 minutes, not more. Entry runs around 4 KM. Come early morning or after 18:00 if you want the bridge itself without a crowd blocking the photo.
