Things to do on Igman

Igman hosted the ski jumping, cross-country and biathlon events of the 1984 Winter Olympics, and during the 1992-1995 siege it carried the makeshift road that ran parallel to the Tunnel of Rescue, the only way in and out of Sarajevo for years.

The two ski jump towers on the Malo Polje plateau still stand, abandoned and covered in graffiti, roughly 30 km and 45 minutes from Sarajevo by car. There is no entry fee to walk up to them. In summer the plateau is used for hiking and mountain biking; in winter, marked cross-country trails open across the same ground the biathlon once used.

Igman is a working mountain, not a resort: bring your own gear, and expect a rougher, quieter visit than neighbouring Bjelasnica.
