Things to do in Ilidza

Ilidza is the gateway, not the destination: a spa and resort town on the western edge of Sarajevo, built up under Austro-Hungarian rule and still running the terminus of some of Europe's oldest continuously operating tram lines. It sits 12 km from central Sarajevo, a 25-minute tram ride, with historic hotels, a racecourse and thermal baths dating back over a century.

5 km avenue of plane trees planted in the 1890s, runs west toward the spring of the Bosna river, a separate site with its own attractions. Treat Ilidza as the base for accommodation, restaurants and the tram connection, and the Vrelo Bosne spring at the far end of the avenue as the actual sight, roughly 45 minutes on foot or 15 by bike or horse-drawn carriage from where the tram stops.
