Things to do at Vijecnica (Sarajevo City Hall)

Vijecnica is the pseudo-Moorish city hall built in 1896 on the bank of the Miljacka, a two-minute walk from the Latin Bridge and the Old Bridge.

It later became the National and University Library, and on the night of 25-26 August 1992 shelling burned the building and destroyed an estimated two million books and manuscripts held inside. Restoration took two decades, funded largely by the European Union and Austria, and the building reopened on 9 May 2014.

Entry runs around 10 KM and covers the rotonda, the stained-glass dome and the horseshoe-arched staircase, plus a small permanent exhibition on the fire and reconstruction. Give it thirty to forty-five minutes.
